Pre-OP Instructions

  • You will be given a prescription for an antibiotic that you will need to take prior to and after the procedure.
  • You will need to purchase a Fleets Enemas from your pharmacy.
  • Let us know if:
  • You have an artificial heart valve or joint or mitral valve prolapse.
  • You are on blood thinners, Blood thinners include:
  • ADVIL, ALEVE, ASPIRIN, ANAPROX, ANACIN, ASCRIPTIN, BUFFERIN, COUMADIN (WARFARIN), ELIQUIS, EXCEDRIN, ECOTRIN, NAPROSYN, NUPRIN, PLAVIX (CLOPIDOGREL), and VITAMIN E.
  • You did not remember to stop taking blood thinners at least 7 days prior to your procedure.
  • You are not feeling well the day of your procedure.
  • You have any questions or concerns about your procedure
  • You may take your other medications as you normally do.

The Day of the Procedure

  • You must use a Fleets Enema according to the package instructions prior to coming to the office.
  • You may eat a light breakfast and a light lunch if you are scheduled afternoon.
  • You must take your antibiotic as directed.

Post-OP Instructions

  • Drink plenty of fluids to prevent blood clots and infection in the bladder.
  • Avoid strenuous activity, including heavy lifting and sexual intercourse, for 3-4 days.
  • You must take your antibiotic as directed.
  • You should expect some burning, frequency, or pain for a few days, Also, you should expect some blood in the semen. stool. or urine for several days or even a few weeks.
  • However, if you experience excessive blooding, burning, clots, frequency, or pain or fever over 101 F, contact the office at (423) 638-4046.
