When it comes to having a urologic procedure, many patients put it on hold due to their fear of pain. At Unity Urology, your comfort is our priority. In order to calm your fears, we thoroughly discuss the procedure with you, including anesthesia and analgesia. We want you to be as comfortable as possible while receiving the care you need.
We want to make sure you are fully educated on the procedure you are about to have. We will outline the purpose of the procedure, the probable outcome, along with any possible complications you may experience from the procedure. Please let us know if you have any questions, as we are always happy to answer them. We want to make sure you are fully aware of everything related to the procedure so you may make an informed decision.
Two types of anesthesia may be used for your procedure. We will often provide our patients with a sedative, which may cause drowsiness, in order to curb anxiety. To ease pain during the procedure, we will use topical, local or general anesthetic, depending on the procedure. We do this to make your procedure comfortable for you.
Following the procedure, non-narcotic analgesics, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen or aspirin, may be recommended to relieve mild pain or discomfort. For moderate to severe pain and discomfort, a narcotic analgesic will be prescribed.
